Leadership Development

Leadership is a responsibility of all of us. We need to contribute effectively as members of  groups, organizations, local communities, nations and the global community.

More than ever, we need to know how to effect positive and sustainable change in our communities. The traditional view of leadership has changed; a leader is not necessarily the person who holds a formal leadership position. Rather, leaders are those who engage in a process of collaboratively working with others towards a shared purpose.

The University of Toronto offers a variety of leadership development programs designed to expand the skills, values, and knowledge that you need to contribute to your community in a more meaningful and effective way. Besides, you can practice your skills through the hundreds of student groups and governance opportunities at U of T, and by doing so build a lifelong commitment to leadership and active citizenship!

By getting involved with the Leadership Development Program you can access a variety of opportunities that will support you in your journey towards:

*Knowing. You must know -yourself, how change occurs, and how and why others may view things differently than you do.

*Being. You must be -ethical, principled, open, caring and inclusive

*Doing. You must act -in socially responsible ways, consistently and congruently, as a participant in community and on your commitments and passions.

(Komives, Lucas and McMahon, 2007, p. 5-6).
