My SSP: Support When You Need It
My SSP provides international students with immediate and/or ongoing confidential, 24 hour support for any school, health, or general life concern at no cost to you. You can call or chat with a counsellor directly from your phone whenever, wherever you are.
As of March 1, 2019, the University of Toronto offers My SSP for free to international students enrolled at the University of Toronto St. George Campus. The service is provided by keep.me SAFE in partnership with Morneau Shepell. International students still have access to existing campus and community mental health services; My SSP is an additional support service for international students.
Multilingual support specifically for international students
My SSP support is available in many languages and their counsellors have experience supporting the unique challenges international students face. Ongoing support is available over the phone in 146 languages. Immediate support is available over the phone in 35 languages and over chat in simplified Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Spanish, English and French.

Download the My SSP app today to get started.
Once downloaded, complete your profile set-up and read the disclaimer. Using the My SSP app, you can call or chat with a counsellor anytime. You can also access the service 24/7 by calling 1-844-451-9700. Outside of North America, call 001-416-380-6578.
When you call, you will be greeted by an automatic menu that will ask you to confirm that you are an international student and state whether this is an emergency. You will then be greeted by a Clinical Care Representative who will collect additional information, including: school, full name, birthday, postal code and language preference, prior to connecting you with a Clinical Care Counsellor.
You can initiate a chat support session directly through the My SSP app. When you initiate a chat, you will be greeted by a Clinical Care Representative who will ask you some general information about yourself prior to connecting you with a Clinical Care Counsellor.
Before you can start chatting, you must read through the disclaimers and make sure your profile is complete (all check marks must be green) to proceed.
Providing confidential support
My SSP is completely confidential within the limits of the law, so no one—including your family, friends, or professors—will ever know you used the program unless you choose to tell them. (A few exceptions apply, please read through the disclaimers in the My SSP app to learn more.)
Personal information is collected by the service provider in order for them to create a client record in their system which is used as a secure, unique identifier for single and repeat accesses to the service. They collect telephone numbers for follow ups or disconnections. Information is not shared with the university, but kept in their case management system in order to have all records in one place. You have access to your record if you request it.
The University of Toronto Centre for International Experience and the Health & Wellness Centre receive high-level anonymized and aggregate reports from My SSP to monitor participation rates and to improve campus programs and services. No personal identifiers are shared in the report.
