Hang on to your SGS Calendar
Continuing students - hang on to the SGS Calendar you received when you were first admitted as a new graduate student. The degree requirements of your program are found in that year's calendar. Take five minutes to review the Important Notices (especially about Regulations and Policies) regarding your responsibilities as a student. Keep your calendar for future reference. Course add or drop deadlines
The final date to add a September session or full-year course is October 7. After the deadline, to add a course you will need written permission of the course lecturer, written permission of your graduate coordinator and SGS approval. The deadline to drop a September session or full-year course, without academic penalty, is November 4. Check the SGS website for the appropriate form. October registration for academic writing and speaking courses
Registration for the next round of free non-credit courses on academic writing and speaking, offered by English Language and Writing Support (ELWS), opens on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving weekend: Tuesday, October 13 at 10:00am. Classes fill quickly, so register early to avoid disappointment. ELWS also offers drop-in workshops on various aspects of academic writing throughout the month of October. Immigrant status change; fee adjustments
If your status in Canada changes during the fall session, you may be eligible for domestic fees. To qualify for an adjustment to fall session fees, you must report your status change and present supporting documents at the SGS Information Desk at 63 St. George Street prior to November 1.
SGS financial counselling service
SGS Financial Counsellors are trained to assist students in all aspects of financial management, including planning a budget and debt load management. Don't let financial problems get out of control. Financial counselling can help relieve stress, resolve immediate financial problems and help you plan for the future. Student parents' guide to financial survival; workshop
The U of T Family Care Office is hosting a financial counselling workshop specifically for students who are also parents. The workshop takes place Tuesday, October 27 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on the second floor of 569 Spadina Avenue. The workshop will discuss tips on money management and budgeting, managing credit/debt and what to do when things go wrong, and how to get access to scholarships, grants, bursaries and other resources. Master's Tuition Fee Bursary
Tuition fee bursaries are available to eligible master's students who still have a small amount of work outstanding. To qualify, students must have been registered full-time from the beginning of their programs and the minimum period of registration for degree completion will have ended by or before either August or December of the current year. Students receiving tuition fee bursaries are not eligible for fellowships, scholarships or other awards. Essentially the bursary allows the recipient to pay the part-time fee for one term.

Conscious Activism Doc Festival
Engage in this series of documentary films for the curious and the concerned. Born of a desire to address injustice, each of these films is a call to action and an affirmation of the tenacity and courage of the human spirit in the midst of devastating circumstances. The festival is hosted by Hart House and runs from October 6 to November 3. Check it out
Thinking about starting a family?
Many graduate students wonder if they can have both - a career in academia and children. From 1:00pm to 3:00pm, on Wednesday, November 11, the Family Care Office (FCO) will host a panel discussion of graduate students and faculty members who are currently integrating their studies/career and are raising children. Registration is required. The FCO offers services to help students who need information on pregnancy planning and child care, to help individuals who are caring for an aging relative, and more. Accessibility Services supports success at university
Accessibility Services ensures equal access to all aspects of university life for students with disabilities on all three U of T campuses. The service provides reasonable and appropriate accommodations to persons who have disabilities, and works as a coordinating and advising body to assist with inclusion. Disabilities include: sensory, mobility, chronic health, mental health, learning disabilities and temporary disabilities, such as broken bones. Accommodations include: alternate test/exam arrangements, note taking, ASL-English interpreting, adaptive equipment and technology, material in alternate formats, etc. Medical documentation is required to register.
