Welcome to the Perspectives on Leadership Campaign!

There are lots of perspectives on leadership. What’s yours? Below we have outlined some key principles of the leadership philosophy that we promote here at U of T. Keep reading to learn more, and find out ways to get involved.

Leadership is for everyone.
Leadership isn’t just for some people. Leadership is for anyone who has the interest and determination to make a difference, to get involved, and to work with others toward creating meaningful change. Whether you start a club, work with a team, or just take one action, everyone has the potential to be a leader.

Leadership is about working together.
Leaders work with those around them to create welcoming, inclusive and empowering environments where everyone can contribute to their best ability. Leadership is about learning the skills to work with others to achieve a collective vision or common purpose.

Leadership is more than a title.
Leadership isn’t just about having a fancy title on your resume or business card. Leadership extends beyond titles and roles to the attitudes and the skills that we use daily to participate in groups and our community in meaningful ways. Anyone can make a difference, regardless of whether they have a title.

Leadership can happen anywhere.
Leadership happens anytime that someone pursues a passion, hobby, or a cause they care about. It can happen in the government, in a big business, or in a club or organization, but it can also happen within a group of friends, in a neighborhood, or any other time a person is encouraging and leading others towards positive change.

Leadership can be learned.
Leadership isn’t something that you are born with. Being a great leader is about developing a set of skills through hard work and dedication that can help you motivate others to work together toward a positive change.
