Summer ULead (½ day)
Back by popular demand we are offering Ulead in the summertime. It’s our regular Ulead workshops but with a twist! In the summer you can attend back to back workshops and earn up to 3 Ulead points per day (1 point per workshop). We have intentionally packaged these workshops so that you can build your skills as the day progresses. You have the option to sign up for the whole day or individual workshops. Please note that lunch (pizza) is included for people registered for the whole day. All sessions will take place at OISE 2281 (The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (MAP), 252 Bloor Street West, Room 2281).
Package 1: Event Planning, Planning Events with Alcohol, First Aid for Event Planners

This workshop will explore effective event planning from the planning stages, through execution, to reflection and assessment. Participants will gain a thorough understanding of how to plan for events and the important steps needed for effective marketing, budgeting, risk management and preparation. We will also talk about making events and marketing accessible to community members. We will talk about delegating roles and tasks and how to manage people through an event process. The session will also cover the evaluation and reflection process that is often neglected in event planning.
Planning Events with Alcohol
Many groups like to plan events that occur at pubs and bars. While these events can be fun community builders, there can be risks involved with alcohol. In this workshop, participants will learn how to plan safe and inclusive events that involve alcohol. Participants will learn how to mitigate risk in planning these events and how to effectively respond to issues that may arise. This workshop will also discuss ways to create a safe and comfortable environment for everyone and ensure that your event with alcohol is fun for everyone.
First Aid for Event Planners
This workshop offers an overview of simple first aid and emergency scene management skills. Participants will actively learn practical skills such as the recovery position, arm/shoulder slings, and bandaging for bleeding. An additional special focus will be oriented towards emergencies encountered during large events such as inebriation and conscious choking. All materials are delivered at a WSIB (Canadian Red Cross) standard. However, this course is purely informational in nature and does not provide any form of first aid certification. Participants will be actively moving to practice with both each other and instructors throughout the course.

Vision and Values
Why are you involved in your club or organization? What motivates you? What is your group’s vision for the year?
Often we don’t carve out time to ask ourselves these questions. This workshop will help you to develop and articulate your vision and values and learn how to engage your membership in this conversation. By having a clear vision, goals and values for your groups, your membership will feel more engaged and connected to the bigger picture of your organization. It is important to not only articulate your vision and values but also make sure that this is connected to your events, publicity, constitution and daily activities.
Participants will learn about setting realistic goals using the SMART goals framework. Participants will discuss the importance of goal setting to individual and group success and have the opportunity to set and discuss goals in these respective areas. We will also discuss goal accountability, prioritizing and communicating progress in organizations.
Prioritization: Tools & Techniques
Stephen Covey, author of The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, states: “The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities.” This workshop will identify strategies to improve prioritization through discussion of effective tools and techniques. You will begin to understand the importance of managing your energy (not your time) while working as a leader in your campus organization. We will engage in conversations and activities that allow you to identify behaviours and attitudes that encourage restoration amongst prioritizing what’s “important” in your organization.

Budgeting and Financial Management
Participants will gain an understanding of how to budget for the year, how to organize their financial information and the importance of financial accountability and transparency within their organization. The session will begin with the basics of bookkeeping and then lead into a hands on workshop on maintaining organization finances. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops/ notebooks along with any financial management tools they are using (spreadsheets, binders, etc.). This workshop is open to all levels of financial literacy.
Running Fundraising Events
Are you interested in raising money for your group’s programming? Getting tired of doing the same bake sales and tabling activities? Join us to learn about fun and creative ways to raise money and awareness for your group. You will learn about strategies to consider and things to think about when planning your next fundraiser.

Recruitment and Retention
Is your club ready to recruit and expand membership? We will discuss the necessary steps to successfully manage your membership, from promoting your organization to prospective members to increase membership engagement throughout the year. We discuss different strategies for engaging new members. Lastly we will discuss making the most out of club’s fairs.
Building Inclusive Teams: Equity 101
We talk a lot about “equity,” but what do we really mean? How does it relate to our everyday lives? This workshop explores these questions while also creating a space for us to think about what commitments we can make around continuing to learn more while putting what we have learned into action.
Understanding what makes your group “tick” is crucial to group productivity and success. In this session, you will gain a solid understanding of Group Development theories and how they relate to your organization and team. Participants will be able to engage in discussions around effective team development and team building with one another. Participants will have the opportunity to share in fun, dynamic and developmental team builders and ideas for building their organization’s community. After attending this session, participants will walk away feeling confident and energized to build their team and motivate others in their organization.
