Appointments & eligibility
Health and Wellness services are available to all full-time and part-time University of Toronto Undergraduate and Graduate students who have paid the appropriate incidental fees. For more information, please refer to Eligibility below.
Appointments can be made in different ways depending on the nature of the concern. Choose the option that works for you. Please refer to Appointments below
We reserve a limited number of drop-in appointments. Theses are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Please refer to Drop-in appointments below.

Who is eligible for services?
- Full-time and Part-time University of Toronto Undergraduate and Graduate students who have paid the appropriate incidental fees.
- Toronto School of Theology students at Emmanuel College in the conjoint full-time basic degree program (undergraduate)
- Students in the School of Continuing Studies English Language Program (identified by a student card)*
Eligible students typically have access to the services for the current academic year, i.e. from September 1 to August 31 of the following year. Eligibility for services continues to the end of August. This means that students are still eligible during summer months when they are not enrolled in classes or are graduating.
*Students in the School of Continuing Studies English Language Program have access to the services for the duration of their course (4 weeks to 12 weeks) while their health insurance coverage is valid. Visit the Health Insurance and Services web page for more information on Health Insurance for this group of students.
In addition, when accessing our services, eligible students must also provide proof of valid health insurance coverage. Examples of health insurance coverage are OHIP, other provincial health insurance plans, or the University Health insurance Plan (UHIP). Students must bring their student card (TCard) and proof of valid health insurance coverage when booking an appointment or checking in for an appointment.
Students who are new to University of Toronto but require service when they arrive in August (before classes start) will be asked show proof of tuition payment or registration.
Who is not eligible for services?
- Post-doctoral fellows
- Spouse or common-law partner of a student
- Children (under 18 years old) of a student
- Toronto School of Theology students in the advance degree program
Graduate students who are on suspension or leave may be granted limited access, on a case-by-case basis by consultation with a clinician. Please contact us to discuss.

Book online: use the new system to to book appointments online (see below)
In order to provide a high quality of health care, we recommend that you schedule appointments with the same doctor, who can become familiar with you and your health needs.
Plan to arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before your appointment to allow for check-in and the completion of paperwork. If you are late for an appointment, it may be cancelled and need to be rebooked for another time. There will also be a fee if you do not properly cancel your appointment – please see our cancellation policy for more information.
Although there is a drop-in option at Health & Wellness, some visits require a booked appointment.
What to bring to your first appointment
1. Student Card (TCard)
2. OHIP card, UHIP, or proof of other valid health insurance coverage
3. Updated immunization records, TB testing information, and any information related to an ongoing condition
Using the new EMR (Electronic Medical Records System)
Now available as of October 13, 2017
The Health & Wellness Centre is pleased to announce that a new electronic medical records (EMR) system is now in place. This new system gives both students and health-care professionals a streamlined way to book and confirm appointments, deliver confidential information, and more. You’ll even be able to customize your online account, choosing to receive email, text or phone call communication.
- have had an appointment at the Health & Wellness Centre before, you’ll get an email that prompts you to make an online account.
- have never visited the Health & Wellness Centre, you’ll be asked if you’d like to create an online account when you go for your first visit.
Keep an eye out for an email from our online booking system, Medeo.
Once you have created your online account, you can log in to the Online Booking System.
To get started, simply follow these steps:
- Read the email that has been sent to you from Medeo Health. Click on “Book your provider now”.
- You’ll be directed to a page that allows you to create an online account or sign in with an existing one. If you haven’t registered with Medeo before, click on “create a new Medeo account”. Fill in the required fields and create your account.
- Next, you’ll have the option of booking an appointment. Select your practitioner (family doctor etc.) and under “Appointment Type”* choose the option that suits your needs.
- Next, a calendar will be displayed. Days with available appointments will show as “# available” and days with no appointments will simply say “unavailable”. Select the day you’d like to book your appointment and a dropdown will show you a list of time slots. Choose the time that works best for you.
- You’ll then be asked to specify a reason for your appointment and to submit your request.
- When you submit your appointment request, you’ll see a screen confirming your details and giving you the option to cancel. Then you’ll get an email from Health & Wellness telling you that your appointment request is under review.
- When your appointment is accepted, you’ll get a confirmation email.
- Three to five days before your appointment, you’ll get an email reminder. If you need to cancel or change your appointment, please note that we require proper notice. Failure to do so will result in a charge.
*If you need a different type of appointment than what’s presented on the system, please call Health & Wellness at 416-978-8030.

Important information - The Health & Wellness Centre’s electronic medical records (EMR) system change:
- What is an electronic medical records (EMR) system?
This is the way the Health & Wellness Centre serves you online. When it is functional, you can use it to book certain medical appointments, receive confidential lab results and more.
- Why are you changing the EMR system?
The current EMR system provider is closing its business. The new system will be a more modern, interactive and intuitive model that will help us serve you better. It is also highly customizable, which is the reason for the temporary closure of any online EMR system over the summer while we create the best possible interface for the U of T community.
- When will the current system stop working?
The existing EMR system will become inactive at 5 p.m. on July 20, 2017.
- When will the new system be up and running?
The new system will be available in the fall of 2017. Once it is functional, you will once again be able to book appointments online.
- What will happen to my medical records?
Your medical records will always be kept securely and confidentially at the Health & Wellness Centre. If you want to access records that you currently save in your online account, we encourage you to download the documents to your personal device before July 19, 2017. After that date, you will be charged a small fee to access historical medical records from the Health & Wellness Centre.
- How will I book an appointment?
Please book appointments over the phone at 416-978-8030 or in person at the Health & Wellness Centre.
- Will I still get an appointment reminder?
We will continue to provide you with an appointment reminder card if you book your appointment in person. Unfortunately, we will not be able to send you automatic email reminder(s) until the new system is fully functional. If you need to confirm your appointment, please call 416-978-8030.
- How will I get my lab results?
We will call you to follow up if your results are abnormal. When the new system is fully functional, you will be able to view your lab results via a secure portal.
- Will I need to create a new online account?
Yes. When you receive a link to the new system, you will be prompted to create an account, even if you already had one on the old system. We will share more information later.
- Can I still use the kiosk to check in for my appointment?
No. Please speak to a staff at the reception desk to check in for your appointment. The kiosks will be available again when the new system is in place.
Health & Wellness can accept a limited number of drop-in patients each day. Students are seen on a first come, first served basis for one problem per visit.
If you arrive at the clinic for a drop-in visit after that limit has been reached, you may be asked to return the following day, or to book an appointment for a later date. If you require medical care more urgently, you may be advised to go to a nearby drop-in clinic (see PDF attached) or emergency department.
The best time to drop-in is early in the morning, between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Typical wait times can range from 15 to 90 minutes or more, so we suggest you bring something to read and be prepared to wait.
Please check our hours before dropping in to ensure that the clinic is open. The clinic closes for all statutory holidays, and occasionally throughout the year for professional development days or staff meetings.
Scheduled appointments are required for the following:
- Periodic Health Visit (formerly annual physical exam)
- Complicated situations/multiple problems/chronic problems
- Detailed health counselling/education
- HIV testing and results
- Travel medicine
- New birth control prescriptions or annual renewals
- Student medical certificates for past illnesses on record (ask for the doctor you saw at that time)
