Poetic HeART Work is a workshop series designed to cultivate wellbeing by deepening creative writing and performance practices that are anchored in self-love. The series is comprised of five 2-hour workshops. Four of the sessions will explore a domain of wellness through art practice, including: body, mind, emotional and spiritual domains, The final session will focus on strengthening participants’ capacity towards radical self and community care, and engage participants in a collaborative process of extending self-love to create thriving, resilient communities. This series is open to all students.

Meet the facilitator

Timaj Garad is a multi-disciplinary Artist, using poetry and theatre to bring stories to life. Her art is auto-biographical, working at the intersections of a black Muslim woman challenging injustice, unearthing truths, and healing. As an award-winning Artist and Educator, Timaj Garad has graced over 200 stages and facilitated several arts-based workshops. In 2012, Timaj was awarded the City of Waterloo's Top 40 Under 40 award for community leadership. She whole-heartedly believes in the transformative power of the arts and is dedicated to engaging individuals and communities in critical arts education initiatives to uplift, inspire, and build ethical communities.
