My First Six Weeks is a workshop series designed to help you smoothly transition to life as a U of T student.

The program features six weekly workshops that will help you develop your academic skills, learn about helpful campus resources, explore exciting involvement opportunities and gain new insights about yourself.

Throughout the program, you will have a peer mentor to guide you, a Facebook group to connect through and fun activities where you can make some friends.

Overview

My First Six Weeks consists of six workshops, each with a different theme and an outing around campus. If you attend at least five weekly workshops, your participation in My First Six Weeks will be recorded on your Co-Curricular Record.

In addition to the weekly workshops, My First Six Weeks will keep you connected through an exclusive Facebook group and weekly outings so that you can spend some social time with your mentor and new friends.

Eligibility

My First Six Weeks is open to all new undergraduate students on the St. George campus. Please be sure to check your class schedule before registering for My First Six Weeks. Once you register for a specific time slot, you will be expected to attend a workshop every week at the time you have selected.

Schedule

There are 4 times available for My First Six Weeks. You are encouraged to pick the day/time that works best for you and attend that time each week.

The program starts September 9 and runs through October 19, 2019.

Tuesdays: 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Wednesdays: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Thursdays: 3:30 – 5 p.m.
Fridays: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Week 1: How-To… Start Strong at U of T

Dates and times:

 Tuesday, September 10, 2019:  5 – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, September 11, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, September 12, 2019: 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

 Friday, September 13, 2019: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Description: Come and learn all about U of T and the many resources, services and opportunities available. This session will also include details about MF6W, and what students can expect by participating in the program.

Week 2: How-To… Achieve Academic Success

Dates and times:
 
 Tuesday, September 17, 2019:  5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, September 18, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, September 19, 2019: 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m.

 Friday, September 20, 2019: 2 – 3:30 p.m.

Description: Learn more about the different academic experience here at U of T and how to stay on top of academics.

Week 3: How-To… Make This Your Community

Dates and times:

 Tuesday, September 24, 2019:  5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, September 25, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, September 26, 2019: 3:30 p.m.– 5 p.m.

 Friday, September 27, 2019: 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Description: Introduce students to the diverse ways of getting involved on campus so that they can make their first-year comfortable, meaningful and find a sense of  belonging.

Week 4: How-To… Be Healthy and Well

Dates and times:
 
 Tuesday, October 1, 2019: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, October 2, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, October 3, 2019: 3:30 p.m.– 5 p.m.

 Friday, October 4, 2019: 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Purpose: Give students the opportunity to learn and actively engage in five simple actions  proven to boost mental health and wellbeing, reduce stress and positively affect their academic experience. 

Week 5: How-To… Set Goals

Dates and times:

 Tuesday, October 8, 2019: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, October 9, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, October 10, 2019: 3:30 p.m.– 5 p.m.

 Friday, October 11, 2019: 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Purpose: Learn how to create realistic personal, professional and academic goals. Strategies for coping when goals aren’t be will also be explored.

Week 6: How-To… Continue to Transition Well

 Dates and times:

 Tuesday, October 15, 2019: 5 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

 Wednesday, October 16, 2019: 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

 Thursday, October 17, 2019: 3:30 p.m.– 5 p.m.

 Friday, October 18, 2019: 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Purpose: Reflect on the topics of the last 5 weeks and play an interactive game that will challenge students Introductions to many different pathways of involvement and  different program offerings will be made.

Registration is now available. You will need to use your UTORid and password to log in to CLNx and complete your registration.

Starting Point

If none of the time slots for My Six First Weeks work for you, or you are seeking a less-structured transition program that you can complete at your own pace, then you may be interested in Starting Point.

Starting Point provides you with a weekly email, from which you choose the eight workshops and the involvement activity that fit your interests and your schedule. It is a great way to start exploring your campus, realizing new passions, and discovering exciting ways to get involved in your community at U of T.

By registering for My First Six Weeks, you are automatically enrolled in Starting Point.
