Build meaningful connections and find belonging at U of T
At U of T, you can meet lots of people, but it can be hard to form the kind of connections and community you want from your university experience.
In this group, you’ll work with therapists and other students on ways to build deeper connections, find a sense of belonging, and feel less alone in your experience. Before joining, you’ll need to meet with a therapist to talk about whether the group is a good fit for your goals.
The group is designed for students who want closer relationships, want to feel more seen and understood by others, haven’t found where they fit yet, and feel down, depressed or anxious. You’ll benefit from this group if you’re looking for a judgment-free space to:
- Meet students who understand what you’re going through.
- Relate to people more authentically.
- Explore ways of communicating that strengthen relationships.
- Put yourself in situations where meaningful connections can grow.
- Offer yourself compassion when you feel lonely or disconnected.
Time Commitment
Four 1.5-hour weekly sessions. You can start at any session and continue through the full series.
How it works
Each week you’ll discuss your experiences and share thoughts about other students’ experiences to gain deeper understanding of what’s going on when you’re trying to connect. It’s designed to be an open conversation about connection, belonging, relationships, social life, and offering compassion to ourselves. While these themes guide the conversations, discussions respond to what you and other students bring to the session.
Why group therapy?
Group therapy gives you the chance to learn from the experiences of other students, guided by therapists. In a collaborative and supportive environment, you can explore what’s been challenging about finding connection and belonging at U of T, and try some new ways of forming community.
How to join
Call 416-978-8030 ext. 5 to book an appointment and see if the group is a good fit for you.
The appointment can be booked within the same day or the next day, and it’s a 45-minute meeting with a therapist where you’ll talk about your challenges, your goals, and what you’re looking to get out of joining a group. The conversation is meant to figure out if the group will help you meet your goals. If not, we’ll guide you to other supports that can.
